In my first post, I shared a bit about how I got started with blogging. But now, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and dive into the real stuff. In this post, I’m going to break down one simple, actionable step you can take to set yourself up for success.
So many of us move through our day aimlessly, figuring out our next move without realizing that even the way we begin our day is crucial to achieving success. Let me explain it another way…
Let’s talk about the Snooze Button Syndrome. If you’re guilty of this, don’t worry—I can relate!
Picture this: You wake up to the sound of your alarm, and before your brain has even processed the fact that it’s morning, you hit the snooze button—again. And then—oh, wait! It’s time to hit it again. And again. Suddenly, it’s 30 minutes later, and you’re still tangled in the sheets, but now you’re really late. What follows? A rushed morning where everything feels off, and you’re already in panic mode. That seemingly harmless snooze sets the tone for your whole day, making you feel like you’re playing catch-up from the moment your feet hit the floor.
Here’s the thing: I’m a firm believer that how I start my day dictates how the rest of it unfolds. Sure, you can always try to turn things around, but let’s be real: the window for that is tiny. One frustration piles on top of another, and suddenly it’s a snowball effect of chaos and meh.
Okay, y’all, before I share with you the very simple system you can implement to avoid the chaos, let’s pop into Story Time! 🤗—ready? (I know you are!)
Remember how I confessed to being a member of the Snooze Button Crew? Well, let me paint the picture for you… I work from home—and I absolutely love it! One of the perks? No commute. The downside? Well, there’s no commute. LOL! Yes, I know that sounds contradictory, but hear me out. It’s great not having to fight traffic, but when you hit snooze 5.09585940585 times and your commute is just from your bed to your desk chair, let me tell you—there’s something about that transition that sets you up for failure. You wake up groggy, and by the time you get to your desk, you’re already feeling like you’ve run a marathon. And friends, being in a hurry is exhausting.
So, after hitting snooze for the 5.09585940585th time, I finally dragged myself out of bed, barely able to open my eyes, and definitely not in the mood to put on any “good vibes” makeup. I went straight from my unmade bed to my desk chair, and as soon as the floodgates of emails and tasks opened up, I felt like a deer in headlights. I was lost—I didn’t know where to start, couldn’t focus on what I was supposed to do, and basically just spun in circles trying to make sense of it all.
Cut to: My daughter oversleeping and missing the bus. This sent me into full-on “mom mode,” which meant abandoning my work to drop her off, meaning I also missed my first break of the day (the one I had planned to use to wash my face and brush my teeth before my first meeting).
The rest of the day? Well, it went something like this:
• I forgot to give my daughter her lunch money.
• I forgot to dry my son’s comfort hoodie—of course, he was disappointed and left the house in a funk.
• I was feeling completely scrambled, which made it impossible to focus on my tasks.
• My lack of focus turned into frustration, and by the end of the day, it felt like everything was going wrong.
• I logged off feeling drained, so I just ordered takeout instead of cooking.
• And I was so wiped out that I nearly skipped game night with the kids just to collapse on the couch and do absolutely nothing.
My day felt much like trying to run in flip-flops—clumsy, uncoordinated, and just praying you don’t trip. Can you relate? The way we start our day—whether we choose to rise with energy or snooze our potential—can dictate how productive and focused we’ll be throughout the rest of it. So, what simple system can we implement to avoid the chaos ? Create a Morning Routine!
Here are 5 simple things that I do to step out of the Snooze Button Syndrome and into a more successful and positive day:
1) Place Phone Across the Room
Put your phone out of arm’s reach so you physically have to get out of bed to turn off the alarm. This small act helps break the snooze cycle and gets your body moving right away.
2) Journal or Meditate for 5-10 Minutes
Spend a few minutes grounding yourself with a quick journal entry or meditation. This sets a positive tone and clears your mind for the day ahead. In case neither of these is your jam, you can also try stretching or yoga.
3) Make Your Bed
Making your bed is a simple way to create a sense of order and accomplishment, giving you one task completed before your day even begins. (No lie, this really does boost my feeling of accomplishment. I love a good check list scratch off!)
4) Wash Your Face & Brush Your Teeth
Refresh yourself with a quick wash and brush. This helps wake up your senses and gives you a clean, energized feeling to start the day.
5) Fuel Your Body
Give yourself time to prepare a nourishing breakfast and brew a cup of coffee (or tea). This ensures you’re energized and ready to tackle your tasks, rather than rushing through a meal or skipping it entirely.
So, friends—how we kick off our day truly matters. Those little moments in the morning can either set us up for success or send us spiraling into chaos. If you’re stuck in the snooze-button struggle (been there, done that!), maybe it’s time to shake things up and create a morning routine that feels good.
Now I wanna hear from you—what’s your morning routine like? Are you a snooze-button pro or do you have some secret tips for starting your day off right? Drop a comment below and spill the tea—I’d love to hear how you set yourself up for a win every day!
Blissfully, Mali 🦋
